Motorola & MMU Extend Collaboration on Wireless Communications

Motorola’s long-term collaboration with MMU first started in 2000 with a strategic partnership to establish the nation’s first Chair for Knowledge Management within MMU’s Faculty of Creative Multimedia. Through a sponsorship of RM1.5M from Motorola, this partnership has already seen the establishment of the Centre for Knowledge Management (CKM) under the guidance of Professor Peter Woods, the Chair for Motorola Knowledge Management in MMU.
At present, the Centre has introduced two courses at the masters level, namely the Master in Knowledge Management and Master of e-Learning Technologies.
MALAYSIA, -- 13 Oct 2004 -- Motorola presented today two-way radios and a grant to the Multimedia University (MMU), Malaysia, to further support the development of talent and expertise in wireless communications. At a total value of about RM70K, the 12 two-way radios will be used by MMU in their courses on RF communications while the grant from Motorola Foundation will be used to enhance MMU’s telecommunications laboratory.
Motorola’s Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, Ms Padmasree Warrior, was in Malaysia to present the radios and the grant to Ir. Professor Dr. Chuah Hean Teik, Vice President of R&D and Academic Development, Multimedia University. The presentation ceremony was held at the new Motorola facility in Cyberjaya that houses its Global Software Group.
In terms of leveraging MMU’s expertise, Motorola has worked the university to train its R&D engineers on wireless technologies through a series of courses.

The centre is playing a leading role to accelerate the development, design and implementation of multimedia content, learning systems software and an electronic-based learning curriculum for the University. Various research papers, training programs, seminars and workshops were conducted on knowledge management, covering audiences such as students, Motorola’s employees, government institutions and local companies.
